Today on the blog we are sharing some of our favorite lakes in the Carolinas and what our staff, family, and friends have all done or experienced around the same! We did not leave any details or ideas off this list! ๐ Make sure to check out the below lakes, cities, shops, restaurants, etc. We really wanted to make an all encompassing guide to lake lifestyle so you never have to miss out on anything!
Let us know in the comments below if you have been to these lakes, live on these lakes, done any of these activities, etc! We love to hear about peoples lifestyles and favorite things to do around these lakes!
Lake Lure
Lake Lure and the surrounding area has endless options when it comes to outdoor activities! From state parks, hiking and biking trails, to boat and water rentals, shopping, and ZIP LINING! Not to mention Asheville city center is a little less than one hour away!
Below we have shared some awesome places and activities that we have either heard of or some members of our team have visited before! Some things we really think you should not miss are Chimney Rock State Park, Canopy Ridge Farm, and Lake Lure Beach and Water Park! But with any of the options below, you will find something for the whole family!

Lake Wylie
Lake Wylie has stunning shore lines just as all these lakes do, but when it comes to getting your land right on the lake, Lake Wylie and Lake Norman will always have our hearts! And when it comes to things to do around Lake Wylie, between Tega Kay and Lake Wylie city โ there is plenty to see, explore, and experience. Since we have done some absolutely stunning homes on Lake Wylie, we have had ample opportunity to eat some great food right on or near the lake!
Some places we recommend to check out is Papa Docs, Pump House, and Sweetwater Sports Bar & Grill! Between these options we are sure you will find something good! Another really awesome and unique experience Lake Wylie offers is tubbing down the river from the Lake Wylie Dam to Catawba Riverwalk Carolinas. We highly suggest looking into all the details and supplies you need to spend on a hot Carolina summers day before going down the river. But if you have what your group needs, do it! It is a great time and a fun way to get some sun with friends and family!
More places in the Lake Wylie area can be found below, let us know if you have been to or go to any of these places and what you think!

Mountain Island Lake
In the small town of Mount Holly and into Huntersville, a man made lake sits beautifully between Lake Wylie and Lake Norman. About 30 minutes from Lake Wylie, Lake Norman, uptown Charlotte, and Gastonia, Mount Holly offers a great small town experience!
Downtown Mount Holly has some great food and drink options for off the water, and we can attest to these places! Traust Brewing Company, Jack Beagleโs, and Queen Bee Bakery are always a hit and some of our favs! There is also plenty to do outdoors around this lake. There is also water rentals at Aquatic Adventures to help get anyone on the water!
One place we frequent regularly near Mountain Island Lake is the iconic White Water Center. Whether you want to white water raft, hop on the Catawba River for a Open Flow Yoga, climb the rock walls, or just grab a bite or beer at their restaurants โ this is an all around outdoors lovers heaven! There are many activities, walking/biking trails, and events that happen here daily that you will not want to miss. We promise!

Lake Norman
Last, but certainly not least โ our stomping grounds! Lake Norman hosts plenty of options for outdoor activities, shopping, experiences, dining, and much more! We cannot express enough how much this area grows every year and how much we love to be apart of this community every day!
Not only is a majority of our work around the Lake Norman area, but we have spent a lot of time getting to know those who live and move to the area. Through this we have found some of the best restaurants, shopping, and activities! Some of the must visit votes around the office are North Harbor Club, Birkdale Village, D9 Brewing, Lake Norman State Park, and Carrigan Farms! As I personally have also been to all of these favorites, I can attest these places are a great place for any day of the week in LKN! Grabbing a Strawberry Basil Gimlet or Not Your Mama's Limeade at North Harbor Club, and their Take A Dip appetizer really helps after a long day! On the weekends itโs also wonderful to walk around Birkdale Village shopping or catch a movie; or for a more active weekend, I love to walk the lake loops at Lake Norman State Park in Troutman! Honestly, the way we see it, there is no wrong answer in LKN and no shortage of things to do! Below are some more options around LKN.
